Assistant Superintendent Kelly Jansen provided information on READ (Reading to Ensure Academic Development), the new reading program in SoWashCo, with initial plans for Pre-K - grade 3. Passed as part of the education bill by the 2023 MN Legislature and enacted by the MN Department of Education, the goal of READ is every child reading at grade level. Plans for grade 4 - 12 will be available in early 2024, and the program will go into effect during the 2024 - 25 school year following selection and training of staff. Students will be tested at the beginning and end of the school year, with remediation provided as needed during the year.
