The League of Women Voters St. Paul's March "Learn with the League" program will explore "Expanding End-of-Life Options in Minnesota" on Tuesday, March 29, 7:00pm - 8:00pm. The guest speaker is Dr. Rebecca Thoman, who directs the Doctors for Dignity program for Compassion & Choices and is a member of LWV Minneapolis.
The Minnesota End-of-Life Options Act, modeled after the Oregon Death with Dignity law, is a bill to authorize medical aid in dying, which gives terminally ill adults of sound mind the option to receive medication they may self-ingest for a peaceful death if their suffering becomes intolerable. It is currently available in 10 states and the District of Columbia. Using theLWV Utah 2016 report, Death with Dignity, and an updated addendum, the LWV End-of-Life Option Committee will provide an overview of the topic, summarize the available data, and answer audience questions. The LWV Minneapolis is seeking concurrence on the LWV Utah position in 2022.
In the interest of public health and safety, this will be a virtual event. The event will be available via Zoom. Interested participants can register on Zoom this link:
The Zoom webinar will be closed captioned and also available through program partner, SPNN. Other program partners include LWV Minneapolis, LWV Roseville Area and LWV White Bear Lake Area.
